Displaced resident shares experience of living at Lakemill Lodge and safety concerns

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Ashley Sandlin was a resident of Lakemill Lodge before she and her family were asked to leave along with all other residents. Northern Nevada Public Health closed the property due to health concerns.

“Everyone was surrounding the front of the building with suitcases with kids, and there were families who had lived there forever.”

And the hardest part was seeing the children’s surprise and not understanding what was happening.

“It’s sad to see children crying when they don’t know where to go.”

Sandlin says living conditions are poor.

“You have to watch your back every time you walk out the door.”

Northern Nevada Public Health closed Lakemill Lodge after health inspectors said they found used drug syringes and human waste in stairwells and common areas.

She says being displaced is stressful, including finding a place to live and trying to sort out finances.

Sandlin says neither he nor the other residents have been refunded.
