GOLDEN, Colo. (KKTV) – Two Golden Troopers were hit by a car Wednesday night, and one died while working the scene of the crash, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

CSP said three Golden Police Officers assisted at the scene of the crash on Highway 58 just east of Washington Boulevard around 4:56 p.m. At the time of the accident, one of the police officers was in the police car while the other two officers were outside.

Another vehicle crossing the road hit the two police officers, forcing them to duck under the original crashed vehicle. CSP said one died at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

CSP said the driver was arrested for possible impaired driving and the Vehicle Crimes Unit continues to investigate the crash.

As of 9 p.m., the intersection was closed and CSP said there is no estimate of when the intersection will reopen.
