In the early morning hours, two men were shot after standing next to a stationary vehicle.

The brothers were shot at at roughly 2.30am on Sunday along the R40 near the Kruger National Park.

The victims, described by police as “good Samaritans”, reportedly recognized the vehicle they stopped to help and were later robbed of their own firearms.

Police said the victims stopped near the vehicle because they believed the occupants needed help.

As soon as they stopped, an unidentified gunman opened fire on the men, wounding one in the lower body and the other in the back.

The brothers, who were injured by bullets, were robbed after the attackers took the gun from their hands.

“A firearm was stolen. “After the shooting and robbery, one of the victims was able to get to the hospital for medical attention.” Mpumalanga police spokesman, Captain Magonseni Nkosi.

“One of the victims died from his injuries in hospital,” Captain Nkosi said.

Safety first

If members of the public have any information about the attack, they are asked to contact police as soon as possible.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi asked motorists to consider their own safety when trying to help others.

The acting commissioner urged community members to contact authorities before putting themselves in potentially dangerous situations.

Helping pedestrian hit

Meanwhile, a man was hit by a car while trying to help a pedestrian who was allegedly hit by a taxi earlier this year.

Samantha Meyrick from IPSS Medical Rescue said both men suffered serious injuries.

“Both patients, both in their 30s, were stabilized at the scene and transported to hospital under the supervision of advanced life support paramedics,” Meyrick said.
