Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding Cake Sold at Auction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A rare slice of cake served at the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip sold for $2,800.

The cake has survived almost eighty years, since its wedding day in 1947.

It is still neatly packaged in a small box with the then Princess Elizabeth’s silver insignia on it and an elaborate doily inside.

Next to the cake is a letter from Elizabeth thanking a guest for a wedding gift.

Elizabeth and Philip’s wedding cake was an extravagant creation, 30 feet high.

It weighed exactly 500 kilos.

A few slices also survived over the decades and were sold at auction.

In 2013, one was sold at auction for $2,300.
