Amy Dowden, who was forced to withdraw from the competition, will reportedly ‘return’ to Strictly Come Dancing in just a few weeks.

The 34-year-old professional dancer, who is understood to have survived breast cancer and Crohn’s disease, was forced to officially withdraw from the competition last week due to a ‘foot injury’ after collapsing backstage.

While she won’t be able to partner JB Gill anymore, she hopes to return to the show in a few weeks to take part in a dance routine.

‘There are no external signs of this injury, she can walk around but cannot wear high heels.’

Speaking on Instagram on Monday, Amy joked: ‘I’m heartbroken right now. Over the past few months I’ve finally felt like myself again. Cancer was no longer the first thing I thought about when I woke up.

‘There was choreography, music choices, what order we danced in and things we had to work on. I felt free again. Ever since I heard the word that you had cancer my goal was to get back on the Strictly dance floor. ‘It’s been very difficult to go back to something I’ve dedicated 2024 to.’

‘We got there with my incredible team. There was something I wanted to do for myself and my loved ones. There was no feeling like dancing in the ballroom again with my Strictly family.

‘Then I partnered with the talented, kind, gentle and spirited JB. Every day the training room was chill, hard-working, and full of big smiles enjoying what we had created along with a blossoming friendship (sic).

He continued: ‘JB, thank you for being a great partner. We took first place on the leaderboard in week one and continued to work hard. Thank you for being so passionate about understanding ballroom and Latin fundamentals’.

‘For me, rumba will always be one of my favourites. I am very sad, very hurt and I ask why me, why now our journey has been cut short?

Pro colleague Lauren Oakley was chosen in his place to perform with JLS star JB Gill at the show on Saturday night.

Following the news, Amy posted on Instagram about her cancer journey and time on Strictly, praising her partner JB and wishing him and Lauren luck.

His co-star also wrote in the comments: ‘This too will pass. We are still a team. I love you. ‘You’ve done the groundwork, so I’ll take your partnership forward and hopefully make you proud.’

‘I am heartbroken right now as I had to withdraw from the competition due to a foot injury and I know full well ‘this too shall pass’ and I will recover soon and return to dancing again. There is something in my life that I need to get used to.

‘I’m sure we’ll dance again at some point, JB. Thank you to all my fans, loved ones, family.’

She promised to be the couple’s “biggest cheerleader” before adding that she knew JB’s new partner Lauren Oakley would continue to “do well on the dance floor”.

JB responded to the comments: ‘Heartbreaking news @amy_dowden but our moments will remain in history forever, never forget that. Thank you for being the best teacher. ‘Nothing but love from the whole Gill family’.

While Lauren wrote: ‘This too shall pass. We are still a team. I love you. You’ve done the groundwork, I’ll take your partnership forward and hopefully make you proud XXX’

It was confirmed in Monday’s episode of It Takes Two that Amy will not be returning for the remainder of the series due to her recovery from her injury.

A spokesperson for Strictly Come Dancing said: ‘Sadly Amy Dowden MBE will not be able to take part in the remainder of the competition this year.

‘As Amy focuses on recovering from her foot injury, fellow Professional Dancer Lauren Oakley will step in as JB’s dance partner.

Amy was just 32 years old when she received the earth-shattering news that she had stage 3 breast cancer in May last year.

He was filming BBC series Dare To Dance at the time and said he realized ‘something wasn’t right’. The day before she went on her second honeymoon with her husband Benjamin, she noticed a lump in her breast.

Later that year, he was diagnosed with another type of unspecified cancer and underwent chemotherapy treatment.

Amy returned to the hospital in August 2024 for more tests and was eventually told all was well.

After a year of scandal, BBC bosses were delighted that Amy was able to return to the show after her battle with cancer, paired with JB.

But during last month’s live Halloween special, he was hospitalized following a collapse after suffering a ‘medical emergency’ backstage at Elstree Studios, the BBC show’s Hertfordshire base.

Minutes before heading to hospital, Amy had performed Foxtrot to Toploader hit Dancing In The Moonlight with celebrity partner JB; however, fans noticed that the dancer was partially seated during her final performance.

During last month’s live Halloween special, he was hospitalized after a reported blackout incident at Elstree Studios.

On Sunday night’s Strictly, viewers watched JB and temporary partner Lauren move on to another week of avoiding dancing.

The singer and Lauren rose to the top of the leaderboard with their couple’s choice performance, scoring a nearly perfect 39 out of 40 on the Bruno Mars Medley.

When it was revealed the couple were safe for another week, JB paid a sweet tribute to Amy by looking into the camera and saying “For you Amy” as he dedicated his performance to the Welsh dancer.

Amy burst into tears as she watched JB and her replacement, Lauren, get a near-perfect score on their routine.

He said: ‘I’m so grateful to you, Lauren. Thank you Lauren, thank you J, you are amazing too. I wish I was there with you.’

Hours before JB and choreographer Lauren hit the dance floor, Amy wrote a heartfelt message of support for the duo on social media.

In a post on Instagram on Saturday, Amy shared a photo of Lauren and JB with the caption: ‘Wishing these two the absolute best of luck tonight! I’ll be your biggest cheerleader!’

Addressing her dance partner directly, Amy continued: ‘JB, how you were able to adapt to a new professional, produce such a big number (so excited for everyone to see) while supporting me says it all! I’m so lucky! You are a STAR! I know what tonight means to you! Thank you!’

He also had kind words for Lauren, who stepped up to temporarily replace him on the show, gushing: ‘Thank you, I knew Jay would be in good hands and have a great time with you!

‘You know, I’ve always admired your dancing ever since I ran to Blackpool Tower to tell you when I was 8! Thank you, darling!’

Chatting to host Janette Manrara on It Takes Two last week, Amy looked in high spirits and looked dazzling in a bright blue two-piece suit.

Completing her sweet message, Amy thanked the Strictly choreographers for a ‘wonderful routine’ as she shared her gratitude for the support she has received from fans.

‘I also want to thank you so much for the love and support I’ve received this past week. I am so grateful and definitely helpful! Tune in to the first ICONS week now!’ He concluded.

JB then responded with his own heartfelt words, writing: ‘You are the best. Your belief in me is so uplifting and your fighting spirit is second to none!

‘Thank you for being my biggest champion and I know @laurenmayoakley and I will be PROUD of you.’

When Amy appeared on last week’s It Takes Two, Janette Manrara asked: ‘I want to start with you, Amy, how are you?’

The professional dancer replied: ‘Yes, I’m feeling much better and would like to thank everyone for the love and support I’ve received and my Strictly family.’

Commenting on how this week has been on the programme, he said: ‘I’m so proud of Lauren and so grateful; They worked hard and JB supported me a lot. They’ve both been texting me all week.’

During the interview, Lauren revealed that the three of them have a Whatsapp group and that she and JB regularly send Amy videos to keep her informed.

Amy chimed in: ‘I called it Team and put a star next to it, we send videos and messages every day.’
