SW WASHINGTON (KPTV) – The night before Election Day, many candidates were still on the campaign trail; They’re knocking on doors, making phone calls, and even collecting ballots in Washington.

Of the many contested races in our area, one of the closest races is in SW Washington, with Joe Kent once again challenging incumbent Marie Glusenkamp Perez.

Kent and his supporters lined up along Main Street in the Battlefield, waving signs. Kent says his goal is to keep people excited until the last minute of this election.

Kent’s campaign office opened early Monday and he took to social media to appeal to supporters to stop by and drop off their ballots so his team could deliver them to them on Election Day.

“A lot of people dropped off their ballots at our campaign office,” Kent says. “Our practice squads were out, I was out at the gates most of the day in Northern Clark County, so folks gave us their ballots, we got three people here making the last little ‘I’m Out’ sign.”

On the other side of this race, incumbent Glusenkamp Perez is taking a different approach.

Instead of collecting ballots, his team of pollsters knocks on doors and helps voters make a plan for how to cast their own ballots if they haven’t already.

He says it’s important to him that people participate and make their voices heard.

“I’m just knocking on doors, making phone calls and making sure people enter their ballots and making sure our ballot boxes are safe and making sure we come in immediately and make our voices heard,” he said. .

Glusenkamp Perez dropped off her ballot at the Fisher’s Landing ballot box last week to show her confidence in security.

This was a very close race in 2022, and each candidate is hoping voter turnout will shift in their favor.
