Do’s and don’ts at the ballot box in Alabama

EAST ALABAMA (WTVM) – With the lack of early voting in Alabama, registered voters will be flocking to the polls on election day, and it’s important that you have everything you need to have a seamless experience.

“First of all, bring a photo ID,” said Russell County Probate Judge Alford Harden.

Harden said the alternative to ID is something with proof of address.

“We accept several different types, such as university ID or business ID. “We also accept your driver’s license or voter ID and things like that,” he said.

Authorities are working to ensure the safety of residents as well as ensuring you have what you need.

Harden said Sheriff’s Deputies will be stationed at polling places in Russell County.

In Lee County, Sheriff Jay Jones said deputies would also be deployed.

“We don’t anticipate any specific issues with the outage, but regardless of that we’re always vigilant and want to have a very visible presence,” Jones said.

Harden advised individuals to keep cell phones out of their eyes at the polls.

“You may want to take a selfie of yourself, but if you unintentionally take a photo of someone else, we will not allow it,” he said. “The best thing to do is to turn off your cell phone or keep it in your pocket while you’re there.”

Harden noted that voters are allowed to wear clothing that supports their candidate, but no one inside the building is allowed to campaign for the candidate. Voters are asked to leave the hall after they finish voting.

“We do a really good job of getting people in and out of the polls. So we do it the right way and do the reporting that night. All they have to do is come and exercise their constitutional rights. Vote for the person they think best represents them and their family,” Harden said.

Polls will open tomorrow at 7 a.m. (CST) and most polls will close at 7 p.m. (CST).

However, in Russell County, it will open at 8am EST and close at 8pm EST.
