HADDAM, Link.(WFSBA 5-year-old boy who was injured when he fell into the Connecticut River has died, authorities said.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said the boy, identified as Jaxon Podbielski of Higganum, was pulled from the Connecticut River in Haddam on Oct. 26.

The child was transported to Connecticut Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead on Thursday after five days in the hospital.

The official cause of death has not yet been determined.

DEEP says no further details are available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
