A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of murder and possession of a knife earlier this year.

He was sentenced to a minimum of 13 years in prison when he appeared at Birmingham Crown. Court on Friday.

His accomplice was convicted of manslaughter and possession of a bladed article and sentenced to five years in prison.

After the sentence was given, Muhammed’s family said in a statement: “As a family, we still cannot even bear to think about how he died, even writing the words that he was killed devastates us once again.

“The loss of Mohammed, or any child, is devastating and life-shattering, but the fact that someone so brutally took his life in such a horrific way will always haunt us.

“It is very difficult to express how his death affected our family’s lives.

“His teachers He told us how smart he was and the kindness he showed in helping others.

“Students told us how friendly and talkative he was to be around and how much they would miss him.

“He dreamed of becoming an engineer and his passion was to work hard to achieve this goal.

“This dream will no longer come true, not because I want to work hard, but in someone else’s hands.”

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, investigationHe said: “Sadly this is another case of young men carrying a knife and being willing to use it with disastrous results.

“Mohammed was enjoying a day out with a friend.

“There is no evidence that he knew either boy who went on to kill him and there is no evidence that he was involved in any previous attacks.

“This horrific violence that inflicts pain on families must end.
