Lenoir County, North Carolina — A man suspected of breaking into a vehicle in Lenoir County is in serious condition after being shot by his homeowner, according to Public Information Officer Bryan Hanks.

Authorities said the incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday, Oct. 26, at a home on Will Baker Road.

Deputies responding to a report of a break-in found Ryan Burd, 39, of Morrisville, suffering from a gunshot wound on the side of the road. Deputies quickly provided first aid and called for more resources.

He was then transported to the designated landing area by EMS and taken to ECU Health Medical Center.

Hanks said Burd was in serious condition.

LCSO is investigating the assault and the results will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for further review.
