Whichever way you look at it, the pizza business is thriving in central Ohio. Four new pizzerias opened across the region in October; these include a new University District location. Mikey’s Late Night Slice and Pizzawala’s first Columbus restaurant, where the menu features an array of Indian-inspired pies.

On the other side of the ledger, two craft brewers have closed their doors: Type X Beer ProjectIt replaced another shuttered pub earlier this year and Taft’s BrewpouriumLocal outpost of Cincinnati-based Taft’s Brewing Co.

Here’s the lowdown on Columbus’ October food and drink scene.

698 Restaurants

Capri, 39 E. Gay St., City Center, opened Oct. 14. It offers $15 cocktails; $10 classics like margaritas, martinis, and old fashioned; and a snack menu featuring flatbreads, Italian cold cuts and sliders with truffle mushroom sauce, and lobster macaroni and cheese.

Firefly Winery

After two years of planning and construction, Jennifer and Joe Hollabaugh opened Firefly Winery on October 17 at 5435 Franklin St. in Hilliard. The new buildings are divided into production and service areas.

Firefly’s inaugural wine list includes its own barrel-aged red blend. Its menu includes delicatessen products, sandwiches, bruschetta, salads, appetizers and desserts. The space offers outdoor seating with fire pits.

HARU

A fast-casual Fukuryu ramen shop on Polaris Parkway has been transformed into something billed as an evening dining experience. Jeff and Yenny Tsao of Fukuryu are co-founders of Fukuryu. HARUOpened October 25, 2027 at Polaris Pkwy.

Yudi Makassau, executive chef of Dozo, formerly of Dayton and Nobu Miami, has created what HARU calls a fresh, innovative take on Japanese omakase, a meal traditionally comprised of chef-selected dishes. HARU’s meal is a five-course meal featuring 10 Makassau sushi creations.

Indian Spice Restaurant and Bar

Indian Spice Restaurant and Bar He offers five suggestions from his menu: Hyderabadi chicken biryani, a rice dish with spicy chicken and caramelized onions; grilled tandoori shrimp; palak paneer, a popular vegetarian dish; Lamb Rogan Josh, a Kashmiri specialty; and a mixed grill platter of lamb, chicken, salmon and shrimp.

The restaurant, at 1111 Hill Road N. in Pickerington, is open for lunch and dinner and serves a weekend lunch buffet.

Jac & Dollars High

A Findlay-based pizzeria has expanded to Columbus. Jac & Dollars High Opened in space on October 18 formerly occupied by the Slammies at 1607 N. High St. in the University District.

Jac & Do’s serves pizza and appetizers and also has a bar.

JenningsJava

Stadz Pizzeria
