PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – A trip to the beach on Pawleys Island turned deadly.

In an update, the Pawleys Island Police Department announced that the rescued swimmer officers died at the hospital Thursday night.

“Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family and friends,” he wrote to Department

Two Pawleys Island police officers were notified of a swimmer in distress near the 3rd Street beach entrance around 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

The couple entered the water and were joined by Midway Fire Rescue.

While officers performed life-saving measures on the beach, the swimmer was taken to hospital and later died.

The swimmer’s name has not been disclosed yet.
