Shocking claims emerged

Among the most controversial findings of the Dispatches investigation presented in the new documentary are: King Charles and Prince William are demanding millions of pounds from the NHS, British Armed Forces and charities to use land inherited centuries ago.

The money received from these properties, where they do not have to pay corporation tax, is added to the private income the royal family receives from British taxpayers’ money.

The King, the Prince and Their Hidden Millions focuses on two duchies (territories ruled by a duke or duchess): the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall. These estates were established in 1399 and 1337 respectively to make more money for the ruler and heir.

Charles and William earned £27.4 million and £23.6 million respectively from their duchies last year alone, the investigation found. This becomes even more controversial as the UK is going through a cost of living crisis and public services such as the NHS are facing the biggest hit.

Posts documentary It reveals the King struck a deal in which the Duchy of Lancaster paid more than £11 million over 15 years to store ambulances in one of the NHS’s warehouses.

Prince William’s Duchy of Cornwall, meanwhile, has a £37m deal to lease Dartmoor Prison to the Ministry of Justice and a similarly lucrative contract to allow the Armed Forces to train on Dartmoor land.

The duchy also receives thousands in rent from various charities, including cancer non-profit organizations Marie Curie and Macmillan, of which the king is patron.

Additionally, a seventh of the Duchy of Cornwall rental properties the prince inherited have the lowest energy rating in the UK and are riddled with black mold and damp.

The news emerges amid Buckingham Palace’s £369 million, ten-year taxpayer-funded refurbishment and as Prince William launches his homelessness campaign by promising “everyone has the right to a safe and stable home”.

The documentary was met with great response. NHS Million, a group started by NHS staff to support the national health service. wrote “Whatever your views on the Royal Family, we can certainly agree that they should not be profiting from our NHS,” he wrote on X/Twitter.

Meanwhile, former BBC correspondent and royal family correspondent Peter Hunt in question: “By agreeing to a fixed income in exchange for giving up his vast Duchy of Cornwall estate, William could single-handedly make a significant impact on homelessness.”
