Maggie Goodlander, wife of US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, was accused in broken English of being a ‘multimillionaire’ after Republican Congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams accused her of favoritism towards the rich during a debate.

Goodlander and Williams are running for the New Hampshire 2nd District congressional seat vacated by Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster, Fox News reported. The two exchanged views on wide-ranging issues such as child care, immigration, abortion and support for Ukraine.

Notably, Goodlander is a former White House aide who comes from the powerful Tamposi family and has deep political connections. She is married to Jake Sullivan and in May of this year announced her bid to run for Congress from her home state of New Hampshire.

‘You’re rich’: Republican candidate trolls Goodlander

As both candidates made their closing arguments during the debate, Goodlander said Williams wanted to support the wealthy on tax policy. “He believes we should just give the richest and biggest corporations a break and hope for the best, that the results will trickle down to hard-working people,” Goodlander said.

“I take a very different approach. “I believe the middle class deserves a tax cut, and I believe we will do a lot for this country by ensuring that we do not continue this disastrous tax policy,” the former White House aide also said.

Williams raised his hand in a curt response and said: “You’re rich. You’re worth $20 to $30 million. How do you know about the suffering of ordinary people? Do you go shopping? Are you going to Walmart? Buying food? I’m talking to those people.”

“A few months ago you pretended to be a renter in Nashua, you came back to run for this open seat with millions of dollars from those in Washington DC… I don’t have money to run TV ads and you act like you’re poor, complaining that your rent is too high. You couldn’t keep that apartment in Nashua for other people to rent. Move back to your $2 million home in Portsmouth. Please don’t say that because you don’t understand the concerns of ordinary people. “People are crying in my arms,” he added.

Williams called Biden ‘divisive’ and Sullivan ‘incompetent’

Williams also expressed his support for freedom in Ukraine. He said he worked with the late Senator John McCain to take on Russian President Vladimir Putin, which is why he is now banned in Russia. The Republican candidate also supports deporting illegal immigrants, calling Sullivan “incompetent” and saying he should be fired.

He also attacked Biden’s “garbage” remarks towards former President Donald Trump’s supporters, saying it was “not unifying and not positive and has been going on for a while.” He called Joe Biden the most divisive president since he came to the United States.

“You’re white, a lot of people are white and they’re talking about MAGA Republicans or threats to democracy. You know all this rhetoric doesn’t work. I love talking about the American dream. How happy I am here, how much I love this country. “I want to serve the public,” he added.

How are Goodlander and Williams doing?

The latest poll shows Goodlander with an eight-point lead for the 2nd District in New Hampshire. It is worth noting here that both candidates are millionaires, but Goodlander is much richer because he comes from an influential family and has many political connections. According to WMUR-TV, Tang Williams is worth between $3.8 million and $8.6 million, while Goodlander is worth between $9.9 million and $39 million.

Tang Williams is a Chinese immigrant who became a US citizen in 1994. He also previously ran as a Libertarian in Colorado. He had only $100 in his pocket when he came to the United States from China, according to the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu called Tang Williams “an extraordinary success story.”

Goodlander worked as a senior antitrust official at the U.S. Department of Justice and an advisor to Attorney General Merrick Garland before moving to White House chief of staff earlier this year. He previously served as an intelligence officer in the Naval Reserve and taught constitutional law at the University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College.
