An event space, brewery and restaurant will open inside the iconic landmark next fall.

The iconic clock tower atop Helsinki Train Central Station will open to the public next year following the completion of a major renovation.

The renovations include construction of a 300-seat event space, a brewery and a restaurant, and the new-look interior is scheduled to open its doors in fall 2025.

Until now, it was possible to visit the clock tower only on special occasions, for example on Helsinki Day.

Period when the building was originally designed by the famous Finnish architect Eliel SaarinenHe intended for the clock tower area to be open to the public, and his draft plans included an elevator to the top floor as well as a brewery for people who came to enjoy the view.

However, just three months after the newly built station opened, these plans suffered a significant setback when Finland passed the alcohol ban in 1919 and Saarinen’s vision fell apart.

But more than a century later, in the autumn of next year, it will finally be possible to enjoy a drink and a view from the iconic clock tower, as Saarinen wanted.

This is thanks to a significant investment in the Central Station building, costing an estimated 60 million euros from 2019 to 2026, according to the state railway company VR.

The work is supervised by the National Museum of Finland.
