KINGSTON, Jamaica — Author RD Hemley has officially published his first book titled ‘ICE: An Adventurous Jamaican Love Story’.

The paperback version of the novel went on sale on Amazon and rdhemley.com on October 22.

“This is definitely a morally gray kind of romance. The story follows two best friends trying to grapple with their own personal growth while doing their best to figure out how to keep each other in their lives as they transition into adulthood, or more accurately, how long to keep each other in their lives. The emotional rollercoaster rears its head frequently because it’s basically ‘yin and yang’. No matter what comes their way, they will always choose each other, even if it doesn’t seem like it. “Sprinkle in some crime, some family trauma and intrigue, and that’s ICE,” Hemley said. The author is a graduate of Glenmuir High School and the University of the West Indies at Mona, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

But he always had a creative side; she was even launching her own clothing brand called ‘Nire Era’.

Hemley added that writing has been a passion of hers for as long as she can remember.

“I always wanted to write because I’m not a very talkative person. My mother will tell you that she has found a few books that I shouldn’t have written at my age. I don’t want to sound boring, but the inspiration definitely came from school. I remember when I was 10 or 11 I won an essay contest about the triple slave trade. My opponents were much older lads but I always told myself ‘just do it for fun’ and I think that win and that mantra is what inspires me not only in my writing but in other aspects of my life as well. Do it even if it’s for fun. But with this particular book, I was stuck at home for a few weeks last year and couldn’t find any Jamaican romance books where the female lead was portrayed as the villain in the relationship, so I decided to write it. he said.

Hemley also said he completed ICE in about 12 weeks, while editing and other finishing touches took about three months.

He said the feedback from readers exceeded his expectations.

“The feedback has been better than I thought. Oh my goodness! I don’t know why, in fact my readers were the ones who bullied me into making it into a print copy. They fell in love with the cover and a few have already expressed that they like the edited version better,” he said.
