NFL teams recently reached out to the Indianapolis Colts about trading backup quarterback Anthony Richardson, but a deal is considered “unlikely,” according to the NFL’s Jordan Schultz:

There is always a need for quarterbacks in the NFL, and many teams like the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders currently have questions about their future at the position. With the trading deadline on Tuesday 16:00 ETIt’s no surprise the Colts got the call.

But the Colts are currently offering this pick to bench Richardson as an option to win football games; This does not mean that the team will move in a different direction in the long term.

“Winning football games is my responsibility to the 53 players and this organization,” Steichen said Wednesday. With that being said, not giving up on Anthony (Richardson) in any way.”

It would be unwise for the Colts to give up the No. 4 overall pick after just 10 starts. Ultimately, the Colts selected the then-20-year-old in the draft after he made just 13 starts in Florida. His athleticism and potential were obvious when they drafted him, and the Colts certainly knew that growing pains were inevitable given his raw talent, youth, and lack of starting experience.

As a result, Richardson has accuracy issues, as evidenced by his 44.4 percent completion rate. And the 4-4 Colts enter the week a half game out of the playoffs with a tough road test against the 5-2 Minnesota Vikings and their No. 9 defense.

If the team wants to win now, the answer is Flacco, who completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 716 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception in four games (two starts) this year when called up due to Richardson’s injury.

For the future, the answer still seems to be Richardson. The question is when he’ll get his chance again, but signs point to him playing for the Colts rather than elsewhere in the league.
