West Ham United, which started the Women’s Super League without a win, lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur.

Beth England canceled out Riko Ueki’s first goal at the start of the second half and a strange own goal from Camila Saez sealed the match in injury time.

It was Spurs who started from the front at Brisbane Road and after some decent build-up play from Martha Thomas, England struck.

Jessica Naz, who made her debut for England last international break, caused problems with a few dangerous runs behind the West Ham backline, while Ella Morris also produced some teasing deliveries.

But Spurs have struggled to deal with set-pieces this season and it again proved to be their undoing as West Ham’s Riko Ueki headed the ball past Viviane Asseyi’s header past Becky Spencer.

Spurs were level six minutes into the second quarter. Thomas made a superb save from Kinga Szemik, Matilda Vinberg hit the post with the rebound and England eventually headed home from close range.

Spurs increased the pressure as the half progressed, Naz curling a fierce long-range effort narrowly wide as England and Morris denied them chances to put them ahead.

But as the match headed towards a draw, Saez lifted the ball over his own goalkeeper as he tried to clear a promising ball forward.

The defeat left West Ham in last place with two points after six games. Meanwhile, Spurs are in sixth place with 7 points.
