As the elections enter their final days, the stakes for Ukraine’s future and European security could not be higher. As a proud Ukrainian American, I am acutely aware of the geopolitical ramifications of next Tuesday’s outcome. The leader we choose will direct our nation to one of two poles.

The Harris administration will continue to support its allies, forge a united West that stands against its rivals, and consolidate its military support for Ukraine, which is fighting the tyrannical Putin regime on its doorstep.

Under the Trump administration, the United States will withdraw into itself. Russia, whose leaders are skilled at stroking Trump’s ego and manipulating him, will abandon its closest allies while cozying up to enemies like North Korea and China. And under a Trump administration where autocrats are encouraged and allies abandoned, the world will play by the rules of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak. In this environment, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, the three Baltic countries and the entire Eastern Europe are under threat.

I personally witnessed Trump’s efforts to blackmail Ukraine, which resulted in his first impeachment. Since then, he has applauded Russia and been endlessly critical of Ukraine, poisoned support for Ukraine among Republicans, fostered a weak perception of the United States by refusing to support our allies, and encouraged Russia’s war on Ukraine with appeasement statements to Putin. .

Allowing Trump to regain the presidency would weaken and endanger the United States internally, reduce its influence externally, and also jeopardize the sovereignty and independence of all of Eastern Europe. We must not let this happen. To my Ukrainian American friends in the region, I ask you to join me in voting for Kamala Harris to be our next president.
