Why No White in the 2024 Penn State Peacocks?

The good news for Penn State is that the team will ultimately host a prime-time White Out game. Bad news? The game will not be broadcast or broadcast on cable television.

Penn State announced late Saturday that its Nov. 9 game against Washington, designated as the 2024 Penn State White Out, will kick off at 8 p.m. at Beaver Stadium. However, the game will only be released on: peacockNBC’s streaming-only service. This marks Penn State’s second appearance on Peacock since the new Big Ten media rights deal goes into effect in 2023. The Nittany Lions defeated Delaware 63-7 in a non-conference game last season.

However, this is a much different situation. White Out is Penn State football’s premier annual event and an opportunity to position the Nittany Lions nationally from a branding and recruiting perspective. But two factors likely influenced the choice to place the game on Peacock.

First, Penn State The game came after its first loss of the season, a 20-13 loss to Ohio State on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. A. Breaking the crowd at home to a record 111,030 people watched the Nittany Lions’ (7-1) final loss to the Buckeyes eighth year in a row.

Second, Penn State already has a de facto prime-time White Out this season. Nittany Lions defeated Illinois 21-7 During an October night game at Beaver Stadium, fans turned into an unofficial White Out. Penn State coach James Franklin’s famous call “White Out energy” for the game the program could not officially identify as White Out.

Next week’s television schedule also worked against Penn State. NBC had already scheduled the Notre Dame-Florida State game for its prime time window. CBS then announced that it would air the game between unbeaten Indiana and Michigan State next week in the 3:30 PM ET window. This left Peacock as the last option for Penn State.

Penn State announced last summer that the Nov. 9 game against Washington would be played. Serving as White Outbecause the athletic department expected the Ohio State game to kick off at noon. Athletic Director Patrick Kraft said in late July that this was not Penn State’s first choice for the White Out.

“We are not entering any games (for the White Out),” Kraft said at Big Ten media days. “I think you all know what we would choose if we were to choose a White Out title. This year was a little more difficult due to the three networks and the ‘draft’ process.”

The Nittany Lions will look to bounce back from a loss against Ohio State, where they failed to score a touchdown in four snaps since the 5-yard line late in the second half. Penn State scored a rushing touchdown against the Buckeyes, who finished the game with an 11-play, 58-yard final drive that consisted entirely of running plays. Franklin called it a “championship fight.”

“We’ve got to do a great job coming in (Sunday) and making the adjustments, but we’ve got to clean it up Sunday night and move on to Washington,” Franklin said after the game. “We can’t let one loss turn into two. The reality of college football is that everything is still in front of us and we have to do a great job of making corrections, eliminating the unforced errors that are happening. We have to find a way to win at home today and next week and

Everything is still ahead of us.”
