Taylor leads Weevils into late comeback | Arkansas Democrat Gazette

Buddy Taylor was certainly the friend the University of Arkansas at Monticello needed on Saturday afternoon.

The backup quarterback threw three second-half touchdown passes to lead the Boll Weevils to a 24-20 victory over Oklahoma Baptist at Willis Leslie Cotton Bowl Stadium in Monticello.

UAM (4-5, 4-5 Big American Conference) trailed 17-3 when Taylor entered starter Demilon Brown on the team’s second possession in the third quarter. AJ Bullock capped the march with a 1-yard touchdown run as Boll guided the Weevils 79 yards in 13 plays. Joe Galay had 1 touchdown and 1 interception for 153 yards for Lyon, which lost for the seventh time in a row (1-7, 0-6). Jaylin Babers added 90 yards on 24 carries and caught a 2-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to tie the score at 7-7 as Texas Lutheran scored 38 of the final 41 points.

WAYLAND BAPTIST 45, ARKANSAS BAPTIST 6

Wayland Baptist (4-4, 4-3 Early Athletic Conference) scored 35 points in the first quarter and defeated the Buffaloes in a shortened contest at Greg Sherwood Memorial Bulldog Stadium in Plainview, Texas.

The match was postponed for more than 2 hours due to bad weather. The teams managed to get through the first half after play restarted, but then there was another stoppage due to inclement weather conditions. According to the Wayland Baptist University Football Facebook page, Arkansas Baptist (1-8, 0-7) decided to forfeit the game, primarily due to the length of time the delays would take and the long bus ride back to Little Rock.

Davian Guajardo threw for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns for Wayland Baptist, which limited the Buffaloes to 124 yards in the lone half. Damon Ford also rushed 8 times for 124 yards and 1 touchdown. Keamodre Horace and Bryan Ponder also had rushing scores.
