It looks like the Cowboys are nearing the end and are moving back to Ezekiel Elliott.

He’s left behind by the team for disciplinary reasons. It looks like he was told he would be inactive for Sunday’s game against the Falcons and things went south from then on.

Elliott has never been a healthy scratch at any point in his career.

Elliott, who was cut by the Cowboys after the 2022 season due to his bloated contract, spent one year with the Patriots before returning to the Cowboys on a one-year deal. He has just 48 carries for 149 yards and a career low average of 3.1 yards per carry.

He received $375,000 for signing and a base salary of $1.25 million. There’s another $375,000 in active roster bonuses per game. He will lose $22,058 if he is not on the active roster for Sunday’s game.

Elliott has another $1 million in incentives. They need 1,110 yards from scrimmage and a playoff berth (not happening), 10 touchdowns (not happening) and at least 55 percent playing time and a playoff berth (currently at 35 percent through seven games).

Theoretically, it can be traded. An injury elsewhere on Sunday could create a market. Or it can be released; If it happens before Tuesday, he becomes a free agent. If it happens after Tuesday, he will have to go through waivers.

If he is released, he will be entitled to receive the remaining part of his salary as severance pay. Judging by his salary, that figure rises to $625,000 after this weekend.
