Changes and improvements in medical technology and medical care can happen quickly, and rural hospitals and health centers are increasingly striving to bring some of the latest advances to their communities.

In addition to keeping up with medical technology, healthcare organizations and local governments in the region are realizing that there is a strong demand for reliable primary and urgent care services that are close to home and accessible at convenient hours.

“Health care is the most basic and vital service needed in rural communities,” said Karol Marciano, Chairman of the Board of Jones Memorial Hospital. “Primary care physicians and their teams provide a wide range of services and treat a wide range of diseases.”

St. Hornell’s James Hospital and Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville have launched several new health care initiatives in recent months, including staff additions, surgical improvements and expanded options for primary and urgent care.

St. James unveils JMH ‘cutting-edge’ robotic surgery technology

Jones Memorial and St. James implemented the da Vinci Surgical System, a cutting-edge robotic-assisted technology that offers patients a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery.

Known as the gold standard in robotic surgery, da Vinci allows surgeons to perform complex procedures through incisions of one to two centimeters. Using a high-resolution 3D camera and miniaturized instruments, the system allows surgeons to operate with unparalleled accuracy, reducing the risk of complications and minimizing recovery time.

Hospitals said the advanced system can be used for procedures such as hernia and gallbladder surgeries, as well as some birth operations.

St. St. James Hospital has extended opening hours at its Urgent Care unit

St. James Hospital Urgent Care clinic recently extended daily working hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.any day of the week in Suite 103 of the Medical Office Building, 7309 Seneca Road North.

Urgent Care is the place to go for common medical problems, minor illnesses, colds, flu, coughs, sore throats and ear infections. Treatment is available for cuts, sprains, strains, and minor burns.

In addition to the change in hours, Urgent Care has recently opened its St. He also welcomed the St. James Occupational Health Clinic into his office space.

Dr. Timothy Reidlinger joins Hornell general surgery team

General surgeon Timothy Reidlinger, MD, in St. He became a member of the surgical team at St. James Hospital. Based full-time in Hornell, Reidlinger provides broad-based general surgery services, specializing in gallbladder, hernias, anorectal disease, colon and upper stomach. and lower endoscopy, skin cancer, port placement, and skin/soft skin infections.

Reidlinger earned his medical degree from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and later completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Rochester.

“Growing up, I always wanted to be a doctor, and shortly after starting medical school I knew that a career as a surgeon was what I would be most passionate about,” Reidlinger said. “I enjoy the ‘see the problem, solve the problem’ nature of being a surgeon, and I love seeing the difference it makes in patients’ lives, especially when you can help them in such a tangible way.”

Jones Memorial strengthens primary care clinic in Alfred

Jones Memorial was recently opened at 35 Glen St. highlighted the relatively new health services in Alfred Village by cutting a ribbon at the primary care clinic.

In a sign of how important the clinic is, Brooke Harris, an Alfred native and chair of the Allegany County Legislature, and Alfred Mayor Jim Ninos attended the ceremony. Congressman Nick Langworthy sent a representative.

“We are proud to say that today, people in our communities have easy access to primary care without having to travel long distances,” Marciano said. he said.

The clinic has been open and accepting patients since October 2023, but due to ongoing construction, the official opening has been postponed until this year.

Neurology, rheumatology and infusion center opened at Hornell MOB

In Hornell, the neurology, rheumatology and infusion center in the Seneca Road Medical Office Building was recently highlighted during a ceremony celebrating the opening of the $1.5 million Jones Memorial Hospital office.

The new clinic offers office visits for neurology and rheumatology, as well as infusions for these patients and general infusions with a large, state-of-the-art infusion suite. It consists of six infusion chairs, a nutrition center, a social worker and on-site service providers.
