MILWAUKEE — The political spotlight falls on Milwaukee on Friday, Nov. 1.

Those traveling in the city and near the airport can expect temporary traffic closures as former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to visit that night.

According to local law enforcement, former President Trump is expected to arrive around 5:50 p.m. and leave at 8:45 p.m. Vice President Harris is expected to arrive around 8:05 pm and leave around 10:00 am on Saturday.

At the airport, E. Layton Boulevard between S. Howell and S. Pennsylvania will be closed during arrivals and departures. Highway 794 will also be temporarily closed.

For businesses and neighbors off Layton Boulevard, that means a lot of navigation changes.

Marisa Matthiesen’s neighborhood is at the forefront of these high-profile political visits.

“When candidates or any celebrity who supports the candidate comes to town, our whole street is filled with cars,” Matthiesen said.

With the change in traffic, it is already being prepared for visitors to stop by and see the planes and convoys.

“I’m excited for them both to be here tomorrow, but I’ll definitely leave work early tomorrow so I don’t hit traffic,” Matthiesen said.

Restaurants like In Plane View they are also preparing for the temporary closure of their main corridor.

Michele works as a bartender there. He told TMJ4 that Friday was one of the busiest nights because of the fish fry.

He advises customers to park on side streets to avoid getting stranded. Law enforcement will close front sidewalks and parking lots.

But being stranded isn’t always a bad thing because of the view the restaurant offers.

“It’s great because they come here for autographs so you can see them,” Michele said. “You see them coming and going in; “You see them get on the plane, so that’s nice.”

The biggest tip is to plan ahead and arrive early.

Harris event at State Fair Park is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Trump’s rally is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
