Friendly highlights: La Center volleyball beats King’s Way Christian for third consecutive Trico League title

Esther Langeliers had 15 kills, five blocks, two digs and an ace as the La Center volleyball team defeated King’s Way Christian 3-0 on Thursday to capture its third consecutive Trico League title.

Set scores were 25-13, 25-21 and 25-21.

Billie Ross added 10 kills, eight digs, one block and one ace for the Wildcats, while Bailey Espana added 11 assists, seven digs, four blocks, two kills and two aces. Quinn Erickson had 17 assists and six digs.

Jessica Barrett, Lilah Chase and CJ Moore scored as the Seton Catholic girls soccer team beat Fort Vancouver 3-1 as the Cougars competed in their first undefeated regular season in school history.

The Cougars head into the district playoffs with a 16-0 record.

3A men’s tennis

Prairie’s Micah Nelson finished second at the 3A bi-district tournament in Kent on Thursday, while Mountain View’s doubles team of Jackson Taylor and Owen Kendrick finished sixth.

Both results earned the three 3A Region 4 champions a berth in the provincial tournament held at the Vancouver Tennis Center in May. The top seven players in singles and doubles advanced to state.

Nelson, who won his quarterfinal in comeback style on Wednesday with a third-set super tiebreaker, began Thursday’s semifinal with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Auburn Mountainview’s Jayden Low.

Nelson then lost 6-2, 6-0 to Bellarmine’s Herky Briggs in the final.

Taylor and Kendrick needed three sets to survive Wednesday and edged Enumclaw’s Noah Nuttle and Nick Harris in a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 10-8 super tiebreaker. Then on Thursday, Taylor and Kendrick clinched their spot at state with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Colin Nelson and Gig Harbor’s Chase Horrocks.

The Mountain View team lost its fifth-place match to Federal Way’s Thomas Holden and Andrew Hyun, 6-4, 6-1.

The 4A boys bi-district tournament will be held in Kent on Friday and Saturday.
