JASPER, Ind. (WFIE) – Jasper Police say a fatal crash is under investigation.

They say the incident happened at US 231 and Division Road just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the incident was a single-vehicle accident and only the driver was inside.

When they arrived, the car was on fire.

The driver was taken out of the burning vehicle and taken to the hospital.

Police said that the investigation found that the driver was speeding and the car crashed into a lamppost.

They say Linda Lou Dalziel of Huntingburg died from her injuries.

Police said many first responders, as well as members of the public, put themselves in harm’s way to save a stranger’s life.
