Best Atlanta Braves Players to Never Win a World Series

The World Series champion of 2024 has been announced. Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman took home his second ring along with the World Series MVP award.

As the 2024 season officially comes to an end and the Atlanta Braves highlight their last title in a glorious era, let’s take a look at the greatest Braves players of all time who didn’t get to experience it.

Here are the five best Braves players who never won a championship. If they won the World Series elsewhere (as a player, coach or manager) they are not counted on this list either. This list is sorted alphabetically by last name.

Ron Gant

Gant reached the World Series twice with the Braves in 1991 and 1992 but came up short both times. The outfielder received MVP votes in three of his seven seasons with the Braves, winning a silver medal in 1991 and making an All-Star appearance in 1992.

He made several more postseason appearances with the Reds, Cardinals and A’s, but never appeared in the Fall Classic again after the 1992 season.

Gant ends his career with two all-star appearances321 home runs and 1,0008 RBI. He hit 147 of his home runs and drove in 480 of those runs for the Braves.

Bob Horner

Horner might be the most underrated player on this list. He only played 10 seasons due to injuries, plus a stint in Japan due to his owner’s concussion, but Horner was a solid contributor to the Braves during his nine seasons with the team.

HE averaged 24 home runs and 72 RBI A season that would average 36 home runs and 110 RBIs over 162 games.

Horner was healthy for the Braves’ only playoff game of his career. But he was ineffective, and the Braves were eliminated from the NLCS by the Cardinals in three games — a best-of-five game at the time.

The 1978 NL Rookie of the Year and 1982 all-star finished his brief career with a .277 average and 218 home runs.

Andrew Jones

Jones has never won a championship in his career. but it didn’t happen without trying. The Braves reached the Fall Classic during his rookie season in 1996 and then again in 1999. They were unable to knock off the strong Yankees teams led by the Core Four.

His performance in the 1996 World Series would have earned him the World Series MVP award had they won. Jones batted .400 with a 1.250 OPS, two home runs and six RBIs.

Jones finished his career with 10 gold gloves, five all-star appearances, 434 home runs and 1,289 RBIs. All that’s left is to enshrine himself in Cooperstown.

dale murphy

Although Murphy never made it to Cooperstown. back-to-back MVP seasons, but his No. 3 player is retired and is in the team’s Hall of Fame.

Like his former teammate Horner, he saw postseason action just once during his 18-year career and never won a game.

Somehow, towards the end of his career, Murphy’s opportunity to reach the World Series eluded him. He left the Braves for the Phillies in 1990, and the Braves went on to win back-to-back NL Pennants. A year after he left for the Rockies in 1993, the Phillies won the Pennant.

Phil Niekro

Niekro is arguably the best player on this list to never win the World Series. He’s currently the only Hall of Fame player on this list, and despite having the longest career of the bunch at 24 seasons, he’s only made the postseason twice and never reached the World Series.

The Braves went 0-6 in two NLCS games 13 years apart. Even when he did sign with the Yankees, it was during their infamous playoff drought from 1982 to 1994.

Niekro completed his career 318 wins, 3,342 lossesfive all-star awards, five Gold Gloves and a career 3.35 ERA
