TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is showing some new advances in shooting accuracy this week.

Shawnee County Commissioners got a behind-the-scenes look at the new law enforcement training center in Berryton on Monday, Nov. 4. In addition to local law enforcement, the center is used by the FBI, Secret Service, Drug Enforcement Administration and more.

The main focus of the sheriff’s office presentation was the details of the new sights on their guns. Use of the new red dot sight provides officers with greater situational awareness, threat analysis and accuracy.

Compared to the same test in 2022, the average agency score increased by 10% this year; This largely depends on new landscapes.

“Law enforcement is a very important part of our community, and anything they can do to be safer not only for themselves but for the general public, I think that’s definitely something we want to accomplish,” said Shawnee County Commissioner Aaron Mays.

In one example highlighted by the sheriff’s office, a sheriff’s deputy with more than two decades of service saw an almost 30% increase in accuracy when using the new sights.
