Berea Police react to actors pulling knives at haunted house attraction

BEREA, Ohio — Berea Police are now urging people to think twice before going to haunted houses if they feel the need to bring a gun.

This comes after Berea Police Lt. Tom Walker said officers found a 17-year-old boy with a black KA-BAR-style knife that haunted house staff told cops killed several employees at Joe Boo Evil Events: Evil. Unleashed was formerly known as the Seven Levels of Hell.

Walker said the teen even tried to throw the knife into the trash can.

But according to the Berea Police Report, haunted house staff watched as the teen tried to destroy it, prompting a security guard to grab the knife and take him into custody.

“When he first entered the haunted house, one of the cast members tried to scare him, pulled out a knife and swung it at him, which alerted the other one,” Walker said. in question

Thankfully, no one was injured, according to Walker.

But Walker now says the teen faces felony menacing charges in Juvenile Court; However, the report stated that he did not intend to harm anyone with this young man, and he repeatedly told the police that he was afraid and wanted to protect himself even though this was a haunted house.

“The fear of someone going to a haunted house and having to bring a gun there. “At first he seems like someone who shouldn’t be in a haunted house,” Walker said.

Because of this little boy’s behavior, Walker urges people to think twice before putting themselves in this scary situation.

“People need to make an assessment to make sure they’re not overwhelmed going into an environment like this where they feel like they probably need to bring a gun,” he said.

Even Ellison, who says he has visited the haunted house in the past, doesn’t think people should go to haunted houses if they feel they have to hurt someone.

“You could end up hurting a lot of people, and I don’t think that’s safe at all,” Ellison said.

The haunted house attraction will be open this Friday and Saturday.
