Body cameras show Sgt. Menon’s questionable arrest tactics, more police testify

Menon, who is facing this criminal case, was arrested for the second time last week on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material.

In their argument for higher bail, prosecutors stated that Menon’s bail should be higher due to the nature of the crimes charged against him and the likelihood of conviction.

Bail for the original case was set at $27,000 without knowledge of child sexual abuse material charges, prosecutors said.

The motion states that images of child sexual abuse were found on two devices seized when police issued a search warrant at Menon’s home. This includes:

  • 38 images are considered child sexual abuse material (sometimes referred to as CSAM)
  • 47 images that may have been child sexual abuse material, but it was difficult to determine the ages of the subjects
  • 107 images were described as “child erotica”

Prosecutors argue these additional charges prove Menon poses a danger to himself and others. They also argue he is a flight risk.
They said Menon had deleted his work phone since they first connected. In court last week, Menon’s lawyer, Dominic Gentile, said the phone was handed over to an IT technician who may have been responsible for deleting evidence from the device.

Prosecutors told the judge they believed Menon would likely become involved in more criminal activity. They said detectives found VPNs (virtual private networks) and scrubbing devices on their devices; This, they claimed, showed that he was sophisticated enough to continue collecting child sexual abuse material.

Prosecutors are asking for $250,000 cash bail, as well as high levels of electronic monitoring, surrender of firearms, surrender of passports and no contact with police witnesses who testified before the grand jury.

A hearing on this motion will be held Wednesday morning.

Metro police previously confirmed that Menon was on unpaid leave from LVMPD and that his police powers were suspended.
