MARSHALL COUNTY (KXII) – Both current Marshall County Sheriff Donald Yow and Former Marshall County Sheriff Danny Cryer say their first order of business if elected is to hire more deputies.

Cryer says hiring more deputies would make the sheriff’s office more robust.

“We can put more deputies on the streets and put more deputies in communities so we can be much more preventive when it comes to crime rather than being reactive,” Cryer said.

Yow says there would be at least 15 MPs if it weren’t currently “stagnant”. There are currently 12.

“If we are lucky enough to be able to resume in November, then we will begin seeking and hiring for those positions immediately,” Yow said.

Cryer served as Marshall County Sheriff from 2016 to 2020 and is running again as an independent candidate.

“I’m very approachable and very approachable,” Cryer said. “Because I was born and raised in this area, I know most of the people who live here, so I give my phone number to everyone I meet, I am extremely approachable.”

Incumbent Republican Yow plans to seek another term in office to continue what he has been building since taking office in January 2021.

“Well, I really care about our district,” Yow said. “To this point in the last three and a half years we have increased drug arrests by 80%. “I will say that our crime rate is down because we are also working on drugs and the theft that comes with that.”

Cryer said his first term focused on the sheriff’s office’s infrastructure.

“We had to rebuild the jail, the communications systems, the vehicle fleet, and most of my budget went to building the infrastructure that the sheriff’s office is on now,” said the former sheriff, who has 27 years of law enforcement experience.

Yow said he humbly wants to continue serving the district with his 32 years of law enforcement experience.

“I am very honored to serve as sheriff, and I mean that,” Yow said. “This is something I don’t take lightly either. This is a result of the fact that we have established a strong team that cares about our district. I appreciate the opportunity to continue being sheriff.

Cryer wants residents to go to the polls no matter who they vote for.

“First of all, please vote for me,” Cryer said. “Whichever candidate you vote for, please go out and vote. This is vitally important. This is a decision that Marshall County will be implementing for the next four years. So make an informed decision and go out and vote.”

Early voting will begin on Wednesday, October 29, at the Marshall County Courthouse, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The election board is asking all voters to enter through the west side door as the front will be locked.
