Washington County

Washington County, with a population of just over 209,000, has voted openly Republican for two decades. The county, considered part of the greater Pittsburgh area, voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump (60.8%) and Biden at 38.1% in 2020. The last time a Democratic presidential candidate won the district was 2004.

Voters: Robin and Jeff Miller

The Millers, both 62, run Jemco Construction LLC, which has been family-owned since its founding in Washington County in 1935. Both support Trump and say they prioritize issues like abortion, the economy and immigration. They see the election as important for reversing the policies of the Biden administration, which they claim harm the economy. They also advocated for tighter voting regulations and expressed doubts about the integrity of the election.

Regarding the border crisis:

Jeff: “It’s not that we don’t want immigrants, it’s that we want them to be vetted.”

About abortion:

Robin: “I don’t know what more Trump can do. I think he’ll keep (the decision) in the states, that’s what he’ll do. “I think (Democrats) will try to reexamine that call.”

About the risks of the choice:

Robin: “I think there’s more at stake because we need to dig ourselves out of this hole and I think more people are becoming desperate about their finances.”

On energy policy:

“The war against fossil fuels should be like this, which means we have developed the cleanest form of natural gas. So why buy from other countries that have no legislation? They still produce. It still enters the atmosphere at the most polluted levels and still affects us all. So why shouldn’t those who have the most support for clean energy be those who produce it for the world?”

On the importance of fair elections:

Jeff: “I don’t want to see my pets vote, I don’t want to see my dead grandparents vote.”

Robin: “I don’t understand why we don’t have to show ID. Even at Democratic conventions, they tell people to show their ID before getting in. How is this?”
