Concord Giant Firewalk Studios Closed, Statement from Sony

sony is shutting down Rapport developer Firewalk Studios. This happened less than two months after the companies acquired the game offlineand removed the live service hitman from the list.

Firewalk Studios closes after Concord failure

In an update from Sony Interactive Entertainment (as spotted by Bloomberg) Jason Schreier), the company decided to shut down Firewalk Studios and discontinue the game. This is because the live service shooter drastically underperforms. SIE says it will take the lessons learned and continue to advance its live services push. The statement says they have spent a lot of time looking at other options over the last few months but felt the “best path forward” was to close the studio.

“After much consideration, we have decided that the best way forward is to permanently discontinue the game and close the studio,” SIE says in the statement. “I want to thank the entire Firewalk for their craftsmanship, creative spirit and dedication.”

The statement continues: “The PvP first-person shooter genre is an ever-evolving competitive space, and unfortunately we fell short of our goals with this title.” “We will take the lessons we learned from Concord and continue to evolve our live service capabilities to enable future growth in this area.”

In the same statement, SIE also announced that it would shut down mobile game studio Neon Koi. SIE said it would find space in its own studios for some of the studios affected by the closure.

“I know none of this is easy news to hear, especially as colleagues and friends are leaving SIE,” the statement said. “Both decisions were seriously considered, and ultimately we think they are the right decisions to strengthen the organization. Neon Koi and Firewalk have been home to many talented individuals, and we will work to find as much space as possible in our global studio community for some of those impacted.”

Shortly after Concord was taken offline, All traces of your existence have been erased From players’ consoles. This seemed to indicate that SIE would not be bringing this game back. However, hope arose when Sony updated the Concord game files in Steam’s backend. This led to Speculation that the game will be free to play. Clearly this is no longer the case.
