ABILENE, Texas — The suspect accused of shooting and killing an Abilene man at a local bar has surrendered.

Anthony Devon Evans, 32, is accused of shooting and killing 30-year-old Hayden Smith at Spanky P’s bar Sunday morning.

Court documents state that Abilene police were called to the bar around 2 a.m. regarding an injured person.

Smith was shot multiple times in the parking lot west of the bar and was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

State officials did not initially know Evans’ name in the documents, but the incident was captured on surveillance video.

The video shows a verbal argument between the two men and Smith slapping Evans, according to court documents.

After Evans told Smith to get out of the bar, Evans walked to his truck in the parking lot, where he appeared to be waiting for Smith.

When Smith left the bar and walked to his own vehicle in the parking lot, Evans confronted Smith and pointed a gun at him.

Evans allegedly shot Smith “at least twice.” Court documents go on to state that Smith did not appear armed at any point during this incident.

After Smith was shot, Evans got into his truck and drove away without trying to help Smith or contact the police.

Although police did not know Evans’ full name, a bartender told them he went by “Ant” and thought his name might be Anthony.

Police were able to track down Evans’ vehicle using the license plate number around Abilene and license plate readers that tagged and photographed the truck near and next to the bar.

Officers were able to identify Evans as the suspect after determining that he was the owner of the vehicle and matching the surveillance footage with his identification.

Abilene Police announced Monday afternoon that Evans surrendered to authorities.
