The woman who hit the propeller of the plane while taking photos died

A 37-year-old Kansas woman was killed when she was struck by a plane’s spinning propeller while trying to take a photo, authorities said.

Photographer Amanda Gallagher was on the plane Saturday afternoon to take photos of the skydivers and brought the plane back down after the skydivers jumped, according to Air Capital Drop Zone, where the incident took place.

Air Capital Drop Zone said the plane landed at the site in Derby, outside Wichita, and the next set of jumpers boarded the plane.

Cessna 182 was grounded but still operating, according to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.

“For unknown reasons… he moved ahead of the wing in violation of basic safety procedures,” Air Capital Drop Zone said in a statement. he said. “With his camera on to take a photo, he stepped back slightly and moved towards the spinning propeller.”

Gallagher, of Wichita, was taken to a hospital and died from his injuries, authorities said.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are continuing the investigation.
