Hattiesburg man arrested by U.S. marshals in Memphis in connection with 2020 murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WDAM) – A Hattiesburg man was arrested in Memphis, Tenn., on Tuesday, Nov. 6, following an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Kode McNair, 25, of Hattiesburg, was arrested Tuesday and charged with capital murder and tampering/fabricating evidence.

On January 3, 2020, John Anthony “Jay” Tarvin was shot and killed at a home on Presley Drive in Hattiesburg.

A little more than two years later, on October 19, 2022, a warrant was issued for McNair’s arrest in connection with the crime.

The USMS Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Mississippi accepted the case on September 24 of this year.

The task force received information that McNair was in Memphis and contacted the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Investigators from Two Rivers began searching for McNair and were tracked to a home in the 6200 block of Thistlebrook in Memphis.

With the assistance of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, USMS surrounded the residence and McNair was taken into custody without incident.
