FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – With eight days to go, Valley News Live details what you need to know about the City of Fargo and North Dakota’s measures at the ballot box this election day.

You may recall that last year Fargo residents said ‘No’ to FARGODOME’s $140 million expansion and renovation project. This included a new convention center. The effort to renovate FARGODOME is back on the ballot as part of ‘Measure 1’ on the City of Fargo ballot. This will change things like improving accessible seating. In past conversations and town meetings, Commissioner Dave Piepkorn said there are other things to spend money on. While the president of FARGODOME said the vote was about letting people know what to do here in Fargo.

The money for the $110 million project has to come from somewhere. FARGODOME officials are proposing a 0.25% sales tax increase for the next 20 years. In addition, FARGODOME will draw approximately 70% of the permanent fund balance, up to $30 million in project costs.

Not to be confused with city size, There is also a Measure 1 on the state ballot. The measure aims to replace language that has been in the North Dakota constitution for decades. If the law is approved, the language of the three institutions will change.

The first will change the ‘Public School for the Deaf and Dumb’ in Devils Lake to the ‘Public School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing’. Later, the ‘State Hospital for the Insane’ in Jamestown would be renamed the ‘State Hospital for the Care of Individuals with Mental Illness’. Finally, the ‘Institution for the Weakly Minded’ in Grafton will change to the ‘Facility for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities’.
