EL DORADO, Kan. (KWCH) – Crews from multiple fire departments responded to a large grass fire in Butler County on Monday. Towanda Fire Chief Tom Pyle confirmed the fire was burning about 60 acres west of El Dorado.

Edye Wright lives near the area where the fire started in the 6200 block of NW 10th Street in west El Dorado.

Wright said he moved his horses as a precaution, but the fire was extinguished in a short time. The fire burned about 60 acres of grass and an acre of woodland, Pyle said. He said 12 units from four departments responded and prevented the flames from damaging any structures. Pyle also confirmed there were no injuries.

Storm Team 12 said grass fire danger is high due to 40 mph winds and dry conditions. A Weather Alert Day has been issued for Tuesday, with winds expected to be at least 50 miles per hour or more.
