CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The Chesapeake location of popular home and furniture store “At Home” closed today due to a compactor fire.

Firefighters responded to 1517 Sams Circle at 11:51 a.m. Employees noticed smoke coming from the compactor at the back of the store.

Firefighters said smoke filled the store, prompting an evacuation.

After noticing the smoke, employees were able to evacuate approximately 40 customers inside.

Two employees were treated for smoke inhalation, but fortunately no other injuries were reported.

Officials said the store will remain closed Monday to assess smoke damage and there is no word on whether it will reopen Tuesday.
