Last summer, Marantz introduced its new flagship “Series 10” line of hi-fi components. It consisted of three products: the Model 10 integrated amplifier, the SACD 10 SACD/CD player, and the Link 10n network audio player.

out of three, Model 10 was the obvious thing. The audiophile-grade integrated amplifier, one of the most popular components in modern hi-fi, was priced at $15,000. It was also the only game with a definitive price tag and release date.

Fast forward two months and both the SACD/CD player and the network audio player are now available for order. Although admittedly more niche than the Model 10 integrated amplifier, both components promise high-end sound and have similarly striking looks.

Wait, what is a network player?

A network audio player – or network streamer – connects to your home’s Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) and adds wireless streaming capabilities and the ability to play digital files over your existing hi-fi setup.

Naturally, the Marantz Link 10n is positioned as a superior network audio player than most. It’s gorgeous thanks to its triple-layer aluminum chassis and large, high-resolution display, and it supports high-resolution audio (up to 32-bit/384 kHz). It’s also compatible with most major streaming technologies and services.

It is also versatile. It has numerous analogue and digital inputs (for TV and turntable connection). Most importantly, it can operate as a standalone preamplifier when paired with a compatible amplifier like the Model 10.

What is a SACD player?

A SACD/CD player is a media player that can play both CDs and Super Audio CDs (SACDs); the latter is just like CDs but can play even higher resolution audio.

The Marantz SACD 10 is the company’s best SACD/CD player to date and promises to be a significant upgrade in the coming period. SA-10 released in 2017 (it costs $7,499, by comparison).

The upgraded model features an industrial design to match Marantz’s other Series 10 components, but has been redesigned and fine-tuned by Marantz’s Audio Master Yoshinori Ogata to deliver even more detailed sound.
