Poll shows abortion rights measure fails to pass in Florida; will need undecided voters to pave the way

Changes to the ballot measure in Florida require 60 percent support to pass.

There is still no support for passage of a measure in the Florida Constitution that would protect abortion rights on Election Day.

According to a new survey, this St. Pete PollsA study conducted for Florida Politics shows that: Amendment 4 unsuccessful. questionnaire It found that almost 54 percent of voters would support the measure, but Florida law requires 60 percent of voters who weigh in on a ballot measure to vote “yes” for it to be included in the constitution.

The poll found just under 38 percent of voters oppose the initiative. That means those who support the amendment need to win over most undecided voters, who make up 8% of those polled.

Amendment 4 would reverse Florida’s abortion ban six weeks pregnantand effectively restore access to the status quo before the U.S. Supreme Court. overthrown Roe v. Wade.

Pollsters report a margin of error of 2.8 percent. The results are based on responses from 1,227 likely General Election voters who were surveyed between October 23 and 25.

Of note, the measure appears to be faring better among those who already vote by mail or in-person early voting, nearly half of those surveyed.

But even there, less than 58% of those who have already voted say they support Amendment 4, while 37% say they vote against it; The remaining 5% did not say whether they voted one way or another for the measure or left it blank.

The poll found that almost 79 percent of Democrats support the ballot measure, while 15 percent oppose it. By contrast, Republicans opposed it by 59% to 32%. A majority of independent voters (almost 57%) support the change, while 36% are strongly opposed.

Almost 66% of voters 29 and under plan to support Amendment 4, but no other age demographic polls above 60%.

About 55 percent of women and 53 percent of men support the measure.
