What happened?

Danielle Christine Miller, 50, of Nashwauk, Minnesota, is charged with voter fraud after allegedly voting for her deceased mother by absentee ballot in August.

According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 20, the Itasca County Auditor’s Office mailed absentee ballots to citizens living in Itasca County. Then, on October 7, the Auditor General’s Office received two signed ballots in the names of Miller and Rose Maria Javorina. However, Javorina died on August 31.

Each signature envelope for an absentee ballot contains two sections that must be completed by the voter and a witness. The voter must sign a signature stating that they “certify that they will meet all legal requirements to vote on Election Day.” The witness must then fill out a section that includes his or her name and street address, certifying that the ballot is blank before the voter votes; the voter marked the ballot in secrecy; the voter puts the ballot paper in the ballot envelope and seals it; and that the witness is or is registered to vote in Minnesota, is a notary public, or is authorized to administer oaths.

Allegedly, it is stated that the witness section of Miller’s ballot signature envelope was filled out by Javorina. The witness part of Javorina’s ballot signature envelope was filled out and signed by Miller, and the voter part was signed by “Rose Javorina”.

The Itasca County Auditor contacted the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office on October 9 regarding possible voter fraud after receiving ballots. Allegedly, the ballot envelopes were not opened but were marked for fraud based on sealed signature envelopes.

The sheriff’s office compared both signature envelopes; Both were filled with black ink and appeared similar, according to the charges. The sheriff’s office compared the signatures on the envelope to Miller’s driver’s license signature and noted that “they appear very similar and match each other.”

Woman admits she voted for Trump for her mother

On Oct. 11, the sheriff’s office spoke with Miller about ballot signature envelopes. She said her mother filled out the absentee ballot and signed her mother’s name on the envelope. He admitted that his mother was a staunch Donald Trump supporter and wanted to vote for Trump, but she died before the ballots were received.

Miller also admitted to filling out her own absentee ballot and signing her mother’s signature as a witness for the ballot.

Miller is charged with two counts of absentee voting, knowingly making or signing a false certificate, and one count of voting absentee, illegally voting, or assisting another; Both of these constitute crimes.

Miller is scheduled to have his first hearing on the charges on Dec. 4.
