Hyderabad, October 28 (IANS): A woman died and around 50 people fell ill after eating momos at a roadside food stall in Banjara Hills.

Some of the victims lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills Police on Monday. They said they ate momos from a stall on Friday.

The police registered the incident and started the investigation. Two people selling Momo were arrested.

Reshma Begum (31), her children and a few people from Singadakunta Basti had momos on Friday. On Saturday, vomiting and agitations appeared and they were admitted to different hospitals in Banjara Hills.

After Reshma Begum’s condition became critical, she was transferred to Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) where she died.

Authorities suspect that food poisoning may be caused by mayonnaise and chutney, as well as momos.

Meanwhile, around 36 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Peddapalli district fell ill with suspected food poisoning.

The incident took place at Mutharam mandal headquarters on Sunday night. Female students were having cough and difficulty breathing.

All of them were admitted to Peddapalli government hospital. According to District Medical and Health Officer K. Pramood Kumar, the health condition of the students was stable except for cough and difficulty breathing.

Dismissing the possibility of food poisoning, the DMHO said students may develop vomiting and seizures if they eat poisoned food. However, he clearly stated that other than cough, no student complained of vomiting or movements.

Concerned parents rushed to the hospital and claimed that school officials had students clean the grass. They said school staff sprayed pesticides before asking students to remove the grass, and that exposure to pesticides may have caused them to fall ill.
