Accused Fall River killer captured after ‘intense manhunt’

Local news

A warrant had been issued for the arrest of 26-year-old Tajon Saxon in connection with a 2023 Fall River murder and a 2021 double homicide.

A New Bedford man wanted in connection with the killings of three people in Fall River was arrested Wednesday, authorities said.

Massachusetts State Police announced that 26-year-old Tajon Saxon is one of four people identified as suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on County Street in Fall River in May 2023.

Diamonte Odom, 23, died in the hospital due to a gunshot wound to his face. Two of the defendants were captured by a State Police unit, while the other surrendered, State Police said.

Ultimately, Saxon was found hiding in an apartment bathroom by State and New Bedford police and was arrested without incident, according to State Police.

“Troopers assigned to the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section work collaboratively with our partners every day to track, locate and apprehend individuals wanted for violent crimes that negatively impact quality of life,” said State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble.

Saxon was also wanted on a presumed arrest warrant in connection with the 2021 double murders of Jovaughn Mills and Miguel Sanjurjo in Fall River.

Saxon stuck State Police January’s Most Wanted list. At the time, the Bristol District Attorney said he was the target of an “intensive manhunt.”

Since then, police have followed “leads up and down the East Coast throughout Florida, South Carolina and New England,” according to a press release.

“I also commend the New Bedford and Fall River Police Departments for their holistic partnership that enabled the team to forward this case to prosecutors at the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office,” Noble said.

Saxon pleaded not guilty Thursday. He failed to post $250,000 bail and remained in custody.

Saxon’s attorney, Kenneth Van Colen, told Boston.com that he had “no comment at this time because our investigation has just begun.”
