The application was filed in the court of NIA special judge Alka Malik and the agency requested that the accused be produced before the court for further custodial interrogation.

On September 11, a grenade was thrown at House No. 575 in Sector 10-D. The explosion of the explosive on the grass area caused serious panic in terms of security.

The investigation was initially conducted by the Chandigarh Police with an FIR registered at the Chandigarh Police Station. The case was later handed over to the NIA for further investigation into the larger criminal conspiracy involving cross-border links.

NIA, in its FIR on October 1, had booked Rinda alias Harwinder Singh Sandhu of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and gangster Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). named with reference. As well as various provisions of the Explosive Substances Act.

It is claimed that the attack was directed by Rinda, who operates in Pakistan, and was carried out in coordination with US-based gangster Khalistani Passia.

NIA’s arguments in court

The NIA’s application before the court states that Akashdeep Singh and Amarjit Singh were first arrested on September 8 by the Punjab Police at the Special State Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar in a related case.

They were later detained by the Chandigarh Police in connection with the grenade attack and have been in judicial custody since then. According to NIA, both the accused were allegedly in direct contact with Passia and smuggling arms from Pakistan.

The application highlighted that the duo, during their interrogation by the Chandigarh Police on September 25, confessed that they had transported a hand grenade which they placed in black polythene next to a canal, to be picked up by their accomplices Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih.

However, they later retracted their statements while in police custody.

NIA maintains that further investigation is required to unravel the full scope of the conspiracy hatched by foreign-based terrorists and determine the reasons behind the attack.

The agency argued that the custodial interrogation of Akashdeep and Amarjit was crucial to unravel the larger conspiracy involving Rinda, Passia and their associates.

The investigation aims to trace the chain of events that led to the attack, identify other potential suspects and gather additional evidence. NIA also hopes to verify the involvement of others who may have played a role in the supply of explosives and weapons.

So far, five people have been arrested in connection with the case: Rohan Masih, Vishal Masih, Amarjit Singh, Akashdeep Singh and the auto driver who transported them, Kuldeep Singh. While the first four are currently detained in the Central Jail in Amritsar, Kuldeep continues to be detained in the Model Jail in Chandigarh. NIA’s investigation aims to identify additional links in the network, focusing specifically on how weapons and explosives are smuggled across the border.
