Surrey news: Man stabbed by stranger in Newton

Authorities are investigating after a man was reportedly stabbed by a stranger in Surrey’s Newton area this week.

Surrey RCMP say the victim was walking on a footpath on 64th Street parallel to 137th Street when he was attacked around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

“The victim was transported to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries,” the detachment wrote in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

“Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading this investigation and is currently gathering evidence to identify the suspect, who is described as a white male.”

While officers searched the area following the stabbing, with the assistance of Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, they were unable to locate the attacker.

RCMP say residents should expect officers to canvass the area for witnesses and surveillance video this week.

Anyone with information about the stabbing can contact the Surrey detachment at 604-599-0502.
