“My father was abusive; He physically assaulted my mother and after a while my mother got fed up, left him and moved to Tanzania with my younger siblings. “I was left behind,” he said.

Ogega stated that he stayed with his father, but his father later remarried a woman with whom he said they did not get along. So he ran away and went to his grandmother’s house.

“I lived with my father until he married my stepmother. “It was difficult to live with her, and one day when they sent me to the luxury mill, I went straight to my grandmother and never came back,” he added.

Kisii woman moves to Tanzania

The 24-year-old girl lived with her grandmother until her mother came to pick her up and they went to Tanzania together.

Life seemed good for a year until his mother got pregnant.

“About a year and a half later, my mother got pregnant, but she could not give birth even though it was past her due date. He became very ill and started bleeding non-stop. He was taken to the hospital, underwent surgery and came out alive,” Ogega recounted.

A few months later, her mother fell ill again, but this time she developed a mysterious swelling and itching on her finger.

“He started scratching his finger and after a while the problem in his finger spread to his entire hand. “Doctors recommended amputation of the finger to prevent further infection,” he said.

Cynthia Ogega married physically abusive man

While his mother was waiting for surgery, a woman asked for marriage for her son and it was immediately granted to her with the promise that her dowry would be paid the next day.

“A woman came and asked my mother to marry me to her son, they didn’t even think about it. They agreed with my stepfather and the family came to me immediately. “I didn’t even spend the night at our house,” he said.

She declared that they would not have marital relations with her husband until he was circumcised.

However, the man was dominating and beating him while asking if he had any respect for him.

“He would rough me up and ask if I respected him. He wished to beat me when his mother and father were not around. “I couldn’t tell anyone because he was my husband and the bride price had been paid,” she added.

Eventually Ogega escaped and returned to his family. He says he explained his situation to his grandmother, who came to see his mother at the hospital.

The older woman planned to help him escape from the successful marriage by returning to his home in Kisii, Kenya.

The 24-year-old woman stated that she never experienced adolescence because she lived a stressful life.

“I never went through puberty, I grew up always in tears and stressed because life at home was so hard especially being the first born,” she added.
