Thrissur: Irinjalakuda police arrested an 11-member gang in the CPI local committee office vandalism case in Chazhoor on Thursday. The criminals were caught in Kaipamangalam, Kattoor and Pazhuvil, where they hid after the attack.

The accused are Ranjith alias Unnimon (32), Dinesh (43), Amalraj, Manikandan (52), Rohan (38), Sharathchandran (36), Ananthakrishnan alias Ananthu (22), Sreekuttan (21), Ajeesh (32), Suraj. . and Arjun (28).

The incident comes after tensions during the Shashti festival at the Subramanyaswamy temple in Pazhuvil led to the police case. However, a young man who was the defendant in the case committed suicide.

Provoked by the death, criminals targeted the residences of Subramanyaswamy Temple Advisory Committee Chairman PA Devidas, advisory committee member AB Jayaprakash and CPI Kurumbilavu ​​local committee secretary. Two days later, the local committee office was also destroyed, police said.

Police added that all the accused in the case were repeat offenders, drug addicts and alcoholics. Irinjalakuda DySP KG Suresh said investigations into their links with the drug mafia are on and action will be taken against those who helped them.
