The boy who stabbed the woman in the bag robbery was charged

A teenage boy was accused of stabbing a woman in the chest after she tried to steal her purse.

Merseyside Police said the victim, aged in his 20s, suffered a punctured lung in the attack in Liverpool’s Toxteth area on Wednesday, November 13.

She was walking on Solway Street West at 07:10 GMT when someone approached her to take her bag and stabbed her when she refused.

A 17-year-old boy from Toxteth has been charged with wounding with intent, attempted robbery and possession of cannabis.

The woman was later released from the hospital, police said.

The boy appeared at Liverpool Youth Court on Wednesday, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on January 2.

Det Insp Chris Carlin said: “Robbery is a crime that can undermine trust and leave people feeling unsafe in the heart of our communities.

“The use of knives to cause harm and fear will never be tolerated on Merseyside.”
