McKinleyville man arrested for theft and drug possession

A McKinleyville man has been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred on Avenue A over the weekend.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said deputies responded to a reported burglary in the 1800 block of Avenue A on Friday, Nov. 15. The victim told deputies they saw the car’s windows were shattered and the interior was rummaged through. They also said the victim’s garage appeared to have been burglarized.

Footage taken from the home’s security cameras shows a man entering the garage and leaving with electrical appliances, a heater and other items.

HCSO said deputies were able to identify the suspect as Nicholas Ford, 37, of McKinleyville, in Pierson Park, around 12 a.m. on Nov. 16.

Deputies had probable cause to believe Ford committed the theft, authorities said. During his arrest, HCSO said deputies found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on his clothing.

Ultimately, Ford was sent to the Humboldt County Department of Corrections on charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Some of the stolen items were collected and returned to the victim, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Anyone with additional information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to contact HCSO at (707) 445-7251 or the Crime Tip Line at (707) 268-2539.
